A poll of likely Minnesota voters showed a 15 percent lead in favor of the constitutional amendment defining marriage as one man and one woman, according to a SurveyUSA and KSTP-TV poll released Sunday, July 22.
The poll by SurveyUSA, a public polling firm that partners with local TV stations, had 52 percent of voters saying they would vote for the amendment to 37 percent against it. Six percent were unsure; 5 percent would not vote.
A previous SurveyUSA poll in February showed 47 percent would vote for the amendment to 39 percent against it.
Other recent polls display different numbers. Public Policy Polling showed 49 percent oppose the amendment and 43 percent in support in early June. A Gallup poll of about 1,000 Americans in May had 50 percent in favor of recognizing same-sex marriages with the same rights of traditional marriage.

i believe that the marriage should be just a man & women.i think it is just wrong to have the same sex marriage.it would be affecting the Christians who believe that their should be just a man & women sex marriage.
ReplyDeletechelsey jensen p7
I think that it is a good thing that one man and one women should be married. Marriage involves with having kids.I would rather marry a man they a woman because it is gross the other way.
ReplyDeleteAshley Otto p2
I believe a marriage should be between a man and a women. Not only it is define in the dictionary but it stands for a religious beliefs. If they allow it to pass they would have to change, I guess certain religions. if they want to go throw gay marriage they can always go to different states. They allow same-sex marriage in certain country's. Go to Vegas.
ReplyDeleteKevin Bouphasavanh p2
I don't really care for the amendment. I think if people want gay marriage to happen, it's OK because it's a choice. I would rather pick to marry a woman because it's my choice.
ReplyDeleteDavid Hoang p3
I also beleive that marriage should be between a man and a woman. That is the way God intended marriage and that is the way it should stay. Of course not everyone believes this way and that is why we vote. I just wish I was a few months older so i could vote on this amendment and do my part in keeping marriage between a man and a woman.
ReplyDeleteDanae Scheef P4
I think people should be themselves and pick what they want in life.If someone is happy with someone; let them be happy. But I also think that God intended us to have opposite sex marriage. But things happen for a reason. So if I was older and could vote, I won't cause I don't have a clear reason to choose one or the other.

ReplyDeleteI don't agree with this law. It's not fair. A marriage now a days isn't like how it was back in the 1600s. We can CHOOSE who we want to marry now. It doesn't matter what race, age (unless you're a minor), or gender to marry at in my view. There is only a few states that have passed letting gays marry. Now that's wrong. It shouldn't be a law against it. It's discriminating against equal rights.
ReplyDeleteSamantha H. P7
I don't like this law. I know that marriage is meant to be between a man and a woman, but if someone is happy together we should let them be. I hear all the time that we are a free country, yet if you are in love with someone of the same gender, you still can't be married. If i could vote this year, i would vote for gay marriage.
ReplyDeleteJared S. P2
I find it just disgusting that so many people still have these 19th century attitudes in this day and age. Just because you disagree with something does not mean you have the right to legislate your morality to others. Marriage between consenting adults of any gender should be completely legal. I really hope that people realize how bigoted it is to support things like this amendment.
ReplyDeleteAndrew H. Period 3
I don't think at all the same way you do. It's not a 19th century attitude! It's about what's right and what's not. You can belive what you believe but I STRONGLY believe that marriage is between a man and a woman.
Delete--Andrea Warkentin p2
Gay marriage is not "wrong", and in any case the government has no right to tell its citizens who they can or can't marry. We live in a democracy with separation of church and state, not a theocracy. Laws that only have religion as a justification are inherently wrong.
DeleteAndrew H. Period 3
I personally think government shouldn't have a say in what marge is it should be the church's decision.
DeleteKeegan O. hour3
I dont really care. I agree with Jared, If someone wants to marry the same sex to be happy.. go for it. But I do think that marriage should be between a man and a women. So I guess that I am in the middle.
ReplyDeleteSuzan D. Period 2
I agree with Suzie one the first part.I was told that if you love someone then you marry them.So if these two people are in love it shouldnt matter if they are the same sex or not.
ReplyDeleteDanielle K. Period 2
I agree with Dani, when we grew up we learned it from the people around us that we should marry the person we love. I don't feel as thought the Government should be able to restrict people from what they believe in.
DeleteI believe that you should be free to marry anyone of your choosing. Just because in the bible, marriage is always related to a man and a women, doesn't mean that it is the only way it can be done. What happened to everyone should be treated equal and free? If the law was passed saying that they couldn't marry the same sex that would be discrimiating against them, and taking away a freedom that we have fought hard for in the past and have earned over many years of war. Its not right for the government to desiced who can and can't get married. I think it should fall into the category of seporation of church and state, because how you get married is usually based on your religion and your church.
ReplyDeleteSydney M. 2nd Hour
I don't completely agree with this but it is what it is. If somebody loves another person of the same gender and they decide they would like to get married that is their own personal decision. I wouldn't agree or disagree with this so I guess I'd say I'm an imbetweener. It doesn't apply to me so I personally don't care. Plus whatever happened to treating everybody equally?
ReplyDelete- Jasmine H. 7th hour
I believe that if a women loves another women its fine same with males but it shouldn't be broadcasted in public if they didn't show PDA there wouldn't be a problem but it makes most people feel uncomfortable so I think gays can get married but keep it out of Minnesota.
ReplyDeleteSteven O. 7th
I strongly believe that marriage is strictly between a man and a woman. If god wanted same sex marriages, wouldn't he have created Adam and Steve instead? If I was old enough to vote my choice would be in favor of the marriage amendment.

DeleteI agree with the amendment. I've always known marriage to be between a man and a woman. I think it is fine if you love someone of the same gender as you, it's not really any of my buisness, but I don't think that it is morally right for those two people to get married.
ReplyDeleteBridget E. p7
I don't think there should be an amendment for just only one man and woman. Whats so bad about gays or lesbians? They should have the same rights as everyone else.
ReplyDeleteBryanna B 7th hour
I believe the amendment is right. People may be outraged with not allowing gay marriage, but either way there will be people mad. I like Jake's comment with, "If god wanted same sex marriages, wouldn't he have created Adam and Steve instead?" If there are gays that are dating, then go ahead date. The law doesn't say they cannot love each other or live with each other, just the majority of Minnesota(including me) agree they don't think gay marriage is right. Therefore they do not think it needs to be broadcasted publically.
ReplyDeleteJared B. H2
I agree with Andrea.
ReplyDeleteNot because she's my cousin, but because she is right.
I saw a poll that says that the human population is shrinking!
I think you could piece those puzzle pieces together.
I don't have anything against the gay people. That's their business.
I just think that it's wrong.
Katie A. P2
I personally believe the government should have no say in who is to marry or not marry; my morals have nothing to do with this conversation. It should be the religious institution's decision as to whether or not they join two people; not you nor I nor anyone else's beliefs and ideals should affect that choice. Why should any of our opinions directly change another's life? If it was you in that position, would you enjoy being told that your love is a sin and you don't have a right to be the person you are?
ReplyDeleteJust as you can't force a person to be a certain religion, personality, or choose their political views for them, you should not be able to tell them who they can and cannot love.
As I like to say, "If you don't like gay marriage, don't get gay married.
Shelby H, 3rd Hour.
First, I disagree with this amendment. The government should not have the power to control who you are allowed to love. Second, Kaite, is the population shrinking a completely bad thing? The world is facing hard times, with humans seeming to be the cause. Third, same sex couples are able to have children, be it through surrogate mothers, adoption, or sperm donors.
ReplyDeleteMorgan A-B, 2nd Hour.
Doesn't it say in the Bible "Judge not lest ye be judged"? Being gay isn't a choice, it's been proven. So, this law is ridiculous.

ReplyDeleteI don't think there should be a marriage amendment. I think that two men and two women should be able to get married. It wouldn't be fair for them to have the marriage amendment passed.
ReplyDeleteJerlynW p7
I agree with Danielle saying that if you're in love with someone marry them. Although it's against my religion and beliefs I don't have a say in what other people do with their lives. It's a free country and should stay that way. But in the end the people will have their way and get what the majority view votes for, then it'll be done and over with. There will be bickering on the subject forever I'm sure. It's politics, there will never be and end to the disagreements.
ReplyDeleteCassie Pelland p3
I would go both ways on this. I believe people should have the right to marry whomever they would like. I feel that if people want to marry the same sex they should be allowed and it shouldn't be anyone's concern but there own. It is against my religion but i'm not going to tell someone they can't be happy. So i say no to the amendment because i feel people should be able to live freely.
ReplyDeleteMolly B p7
I don't think there should be a amendment for same sex marriage. It's their choice and their choice shouldn't be taken from them. Everyone is a free man or woman and should be able to marry the same sex.
