2012 was hottest year ever...by far!

Public Opinion
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration today affirmed that 2012 was the hottest year on record for the continental United States.
Globally, the past 36 years have been warmer than the 20th century average and each of the past 5 decades has been warmer than the last. According to weather observer Timothy W. Hawkins, Shippensburg University associate professor of geography and earth science, Shippensburg saw its second hottest year since records were kept starting in 1933.The average temperature was 55.3 degrees in 2012, compared to the previous record of 55.9 degrees in 1998.
NOAA also announced this month that 2012 was the second most expensive year on record for U.S. weather disasters that cost more than $1 billion. Its list of states affected by severe weather shows that most of the country suffered from climate change-related extremes, including extensive heat
and drought, western wildfires and the destruction from Sandy, which rode in on a super-high tide due to rising sea levels. "Unfortunately, this won't be the last time we break records like this," said Angela Anderson, the director of the Climate and Energy Program at the Union of Concerned Scientists. "The longer we delay reducing emissions, the more climate change we're going to lock in. The price tag for dealing with unchecked climate change makes the fiscal cliff look like a crack in the sidewalk."

  2. I think that we need to reduce emissions, but i also think that sandy wasn't caused by anything global. Hurricanes happen all the time. When any of the new hurricanes hit before sandy nobody jumped in, and said that it was because of global warming.

  3. Sandy wasn't caused by global warming but the I think emission is killing this planted. I've seen things that should happen in a different season.

  4. I think that the only reason for having the most warm year is because of the suns raises. I've seen some changes in the year and some changes that don't matter or make any sense at all. Sandy is the worst hurricane that happened I think. The weather is crazy these days because sometimes when the weather man said that it is supposed to do and then that day or time comes and it doesn't happen that's why don't listen to the weather man. I just hope that the world doesn't end up really bad because when things start getting bad they seem to get worse and worse and then that is bad!! I just want everything bad that has happened to stop or I just don't understand,if people are going to be bad like ding(murders, kid napping children and adults)that is just bad and not reasonable for a person to do that.

  5. I think that it is a very very bad if the weather gets hotter. We could get wild fire here in Minnesota. We could lose our trees. That would be bad if we lose are trees because then we would lose oxygen from the trees too.We could end up dying from the changes in the world.

    1. Yes. But we also can do things about that ourselves. Like only drive in the winter. That would hurt the planet but not as much, and in the summer we could walk or bike

  6. It has been getting hotter and hotter for years. It doesn't suprise me one bit that last year was the hottest on record. Plus now that I think of it our last winter was pretty warm. What also amazes me is how cold it is outside! I just went to put gas on and a little bit of my exposed thumb touched the metal on the handle. It stung so bad!

  7. I agreed with alex, It's getting hotter during summer time and colder during winter times.

  8. Earth changes all the time over the years, it started out with nothing on it except a few little organisms and those grew. Then there were dinosaurs and scientists still aren't sure what they died from. We also had an Ice Age stage. What I'm trying to say is that, the world is constantly shifting and changing. It's how life is, and some years it gets hotter and others it doesn't. There has always been natural disasters in the world, it's bound to happen. Also, about global warming, that is true. We are getting warmer, but we can adapt. That's how everything goes, we're great adapters and then there are species that aren't won't make it. But we should help with the emissions and cut down on using nonrenewable sources. It would help the air and everything else.

  9. I think that we should just cut down on emmission. But climate change has happened many times over the course of time. Thats how we got out of the ice age so long ago. I think that climate change is natural and we can't stop it, we can only slow it down. Instead of speading all our time and money trying to find ways to stop global warming we should be finding ways to cope with the raising weather.
