(CNN) -- North Korea, who is threatening nuclear war against the United States, kept tensions simmering around its borders Thursday, reportedly moving a medium-range missile to its east coast and continuing to put pressure on a joint industrial complex where hundreds of South Koreans work.
Wednesday, the United States announced it was sending ballistic missile defenses to Guam, a Western Pacific territory that's home to U.S. naval and air bases. North Korea has cited those bases among possible targets for missile attacks.
This comes amid the disclosure of what one U.S. official calls an Obama administration "playbook" of pre-scripted actions and responses to the last several weeks of North Korean rhetoric and provocations.
South Korean Defense Minister Kim Kwan-jin told a parliamentary committee in Seoul that the North has moved a medium-range missile to its east coast for an imminent test firing or military drill. The missile doesn't appear to be aimed at the U.S. mainland, Kim said, according to the semi-official South Korean news agency Yonhap.

I think that even though north korea's missles are not aimed directly at the U.S mainland it's not a good idea to provoke a strike. I also think that we should make sure that north korea makes the first agressive move. So that way it wouldn't seem like we wanted to start a war. The movie red dawn shows north korea invading the whole east coast. Is that possibly what could happen?

Matt, this is a good post. I agree with you.

I think this is just an annual flexing of North Korea's muscles to get us to provide more food and resources to them (to mostly their military and not their starving citizens). Even though they're threatening an attack with some stereotypical communist firepower, I really doubt that their hurting nation could ever produce a missile capable of hitting a target over the largest ocean in the world! There is, however, no shadow of a doubt that N. Korea could hit a nation closer to it. This will definitely end up in some sort of appeasement, having our lovely foreign policy being the way it is.

I disagree with you there jonas. I think that north korea could have a missle capable of shooting across the largest ocean. We can't say they dont because they're not telling the jounalist's everything they do. The journalist's only tell what north korea tells them to tell.

I think that it is something to worry about. North Korea is threatening us with nuclear bombs. They might be just scaring the counties, but they could use them on us.
ReplyDeleteAshleyotto p2
I know a lot of people don't think these threats should be taken seriously and I can see why. The U.S. is clearly superior in this department. I just think that any threat should be taken seriously, especially by slightly crazy leaders of other countries. We've all learned this from Hitler, have we not?
ReplyDeleteI think that if North Korea's missiles are supposed to hit the United States then we shouldn't be really concerned. One is that we don't know how fast or far they travel or even what they look like. I agree with Cami that we should take things seriously but if we don't know anything more about them then we shouldn't be as concerned as if their was a killing. A threat is really words coming from someone voice but no action has been taking towards the threat that they made.

We cant trust North Korea well i don't think we should . Look what they did during the war we decided to fight on the south side.

I think it's really dumb if they wanted to bomb us. We have better weapons and nukes now than we did then. We would probably blow up North Korea because They're just a tiny country.

I agree with you david that we have better weapons and we have nukes, but the north korean's also have these bombs. We can not go over there and have a war, and have it end up in a total annhialation of both sides.

I disagree with Matthew. I don't think we should wait for North Korea to make the first move cause that means Americans or friends of Americans well end up dying. I think its a good move by the U.S. to send ballistic missile defenses to Guam because now North Korea knows that if they attack Guam their gunna get one fired right back at them.

I think that everything is wrong. If this happens we might have World War III.I just don't understand why we have to have violence,I always say "violence is never the answer to everything." I just can't stand all this violence....it is crazy and I don't like it.Why would someone want to to do such a thing like that? That is stupid.

When i first heard that North Korea threatened the United States with nuclear war, I almost didn't believe them. I really hope that North Korea never gets any really fire power, because there have been so many jokes on how ridiculous it is that they want to attack us. We are the most powerful country on earth. I don't know if I want to say that North Korea has some balls, or they are completely insane! We have thousands of nukes compared to there few, And we have way more experience with them. I think that Kim is just trying to make a name for himself. He is not a very smart man....

Personally, from hearing the talking around me,I don't feel quite endangered at all. I feel like North Korea isn't serious, and the United States handled it very well. Showing them what they were really up agianst kind of crushed any little plan they might of had conpired against us. They would be annihilated if they started a war on us if the nuclear warhead numbers are correct. Also I agree with Mitchell saying that Kim is trying to make his name big.I believe it will all blow over in time.

I think the only reason North Korea threatened the United States is to get attention. Although I am glad that U.S. did take action and not just think of North Korea as a joke, even if we could blow up their whole counntry we could lose a lot of people if they did bomb us. Plus we would look very stupid for thinking we are so above them then get caught off guard. Overall America does have the best armed forces but that makes us a target for other countries and we need to realize that.

I dont think the U.S. should take North Korea as a joke. I think their new leader, Kim Jong Un, is trying to prove himself to their people. His father and grandfather were strong and had complete control over their country and I think he is trying to do that. We should deal with him very cautiously and not do anything irrational.

I agree with Burke. This new leader, that is going try prove himself too the world. I think he will Nuclear us if we don't take this real.

I think that North Korea has taken it way too far this time. The approval of a nuclear strike against the u.s. Should be considered an act of war. I believe that in the near future that we will need to take care of this very big problem.

ReplyDeleteI think that it's terrible North Korea threatened the United States with nuclear war. I don't think they where completely serious but we shouldn't ignore it either. I think its good that we took action just to be safe, instead of taking action when its to late.
