WASHINGTON - President Obama said Tuesday that the government had sufficient information to uncover the terror plot to bring down a commercial jetliner on Christmas Day, but that intelligence officials had "failed to connect those dots."
"This was not a failure to collect intelligence, it was a failure to integrate and understand the intelligence that we already had," Obama said after meeting with his national security team for nearly two hours. He added, "We have to do better, we will do better and we have to do it quickly. American lives are on the line."
The tone of the president's remarks --the sharpest of any of his statements since the incident nearly two weeks ago -- underscored his anger over the lapses in intelligence and his efforts to minimize any political risks from his administration's response.
And yet, along with Bush, this is the same person who wants to close Guantanamo Bay. How is it possible to say you are wanting to prevent American lives from being at risk and also wanting to close Guantanamo Bay? (Which, by the way, has had 1 in 5 of the released detainees return to terrorism.) Sending troops to Afghanistan is practically worthless if we continue to unintentionally support our enemies. I have a hard time taking Obama seriously when he says things like this. His talk contradicts his actions.
ReplyDeleteI think this was absolutly pathetic, why did we not act on the information we had? Was NATIONAL SECURITY really so naive to think that nobody would be able to get past them? This was a terrible event. They are VERY lucky the man was unsuccesful. Obama should speak sharply. He should be absolutly ashamed that such a thing could happen when he is talking about improved security for our nation. This is not a very good example for him.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how security expected to catch everything thats not supose to go on a plane. Security will probably get tighter now and it already takes a long time to get through security at the airport. The security should find away to catch that kind of stuff easier. The people on the plane were lucky that his bomb didnt work and blow up the plane. Obama says he the U.S. had good security. That bomb that got on the plane didn't make him look good.
ReplyDeletePresident obama had no right to go on national television and blame this incident on the intelligence agencies. This incident is just as much his fault as it is the intelligence agencies, hes just trying his hardest to keep his name clean and out of the blame game. But when it comes down to it i think this could have ben averted if all agencies would of pulled a little more weight, and quit playing the blame game
ReplyDeleteThis is a really interesting case. I really don't know how the security failed, because just who flew from another country to U.S knows how security in the airport is. Sometimes it gets to be rude with the passengers, I really though that it was not necessary, but now I totally agree with this procedure and I think they can improve it as much as they can!
