BEAUFORT OBSERVER
It would appear that al Qaeda has declared war on Christians who live in Muslim-majority countries. The most recent attack came in Alexandria, Egypt on New Year's Day when a suicide bomber killed 21 people and wounded 43 others at the Coptic Orthodox Church as hundreds of worshipers prayed as the New Year came in. The New Year's Day attack was but the latest of what now appears to be a major shift in al Qaeda's War of Terror. On Christmas Day, six people died in attacks on two Christian churches in northeast Nigeria and six people were injured by a bomb in a Roman Catholic Church in the Philippines. In November 52 people died in a Baghdad church where 100 Iraqi Catholics were captured by al Qaeda-linked gunmen, according to Reuters
The Pope has condemned the attacks and on New Year's Day President Obama spoke out against them. Readers will remember that it was in Egypt that Obama made his infamous "reconciliation speech" to the Muslim world. Since then there have been more attacks per month by Islamic jihadists terrorists and now it appears their chief targets are going to be minority Christians in Muslim countries. Whether the United States will be effective in bringing pressure on the Muslim countries to protect minority Christians remains to be seen.
I think that this is just another proof of how crazy the world is becoming, more and more. First of all, injure other people, despite for self defense, is completely wrong; and if hurting is bad, killing is even worse. Then we come back to the same old religions conflict. This can`t be our world future, people must accept each other! It is not wrong to be a christian, just as it is not wrong to be muslim. The complication comes from fanatism, nothing can be healthy when in exagerated quantities, this rule can be applied for faith too. Today we need to adapt what our religion tells us to do to our reality, so we don`t end up hurting another religious group. This attack wouldn`t have happened if there was more acceptance and understanding in the world. I think that now, despite is hard, USA shouldn`t respond the attack with hostile manners, it should take it all very seriously of course, but with no aggression. And as far as the muslim community, they are more than wrong in having commited those attacks, specially them , because they complain to be discriminated here in USA, when they do the same thing or worse whenever there`s an opportunity toward us.
ReplyDeleteI can never understand how they dare to kill people because of different belief. They are Muslim-majority countries, so what? The US was founded by Christians, we don't kill the Muslims here. To express a non-Christian view is that they are too narrow; to express a Christian view is that they are too afriad of the Great Spirit. But the people are innocent. You can't express your fear or anger by taking away other people's lives! I don't expect them to respect, but at least don't kill. Especially in churches. How sad!
ReplyDeleteAll this contrevousey because of relegion. Okay, people will never agree on everything. But seriously? To say because you belive this, means you are the only right people. How.. well, I hate to say it but american. We always think were right. It's a very selfish thing.
ReplyDeleteWhy can't people just get along a little bit better. Just because someone is of a different religion, doesn't mean you can go around killing them. Some people need to stop being so close-minded, and accept others for who they are. I'm glad that I live here in the United States, where they don't kill you over your religion, they just make fun of you or harrass you.
