The US Marine Corps will investigate a video showing what appear to be American forces in Afghanistan urinating on the bodies of dead Taliban fighters.
The video, which was posted on YouTube and other websites, shows four men in camouflage Marine combat uniforms urinating on the bodies of three dead Taliban. One of them jokes: "Have a nice day, buddy." Another makes a lewd joke about a shower.
"While we have not yet verified the origin or authenticity of this video, the actions portrayed are not consistent with our core values and are not indicative of the character of the Marines in our Corps," the Marines said in a statement. "This matter will be fully investigated."
The video could aggravate anti-American sentiment in Afghanistan after a decade of a war that seen other cases of abuse. The Marine video release comes at a sensitive moment, with Washington trying to promote Afghan reconciliation as US troops gradually withdraw from the country.
US Ambassador Marc Grossman is due to visit Afghanistan and Qatar next week for talks with the Afghan and Qatar governments.
At the Pentagon, Captain John Kirby said the defence department was "deeply troubled" by the video. "Whoever it is, and whatever the circumstances - which we know is under investigation - it is egregious behaviour and unacceptable for a member of the military," Kirby, a Pentagon spokesman, said.

I think that what those Marines did was terrible. You should always have respect for the dead. Even though they are your enemy you cant just go urinating on somebodys grave. I hope those marines are punished for this sicking act. I also think that they have some serious moral issues for doing this. They also made relations even worse and look at how bad they already are.

I think that those Marines shouldn't have done it. Even if they are the enemy, they should have shown some respect towards the dead. Those Marines are ready killed them so to mock the dead is a great show of stupidity.

How do they know that the video was real because the military usually doesn't let soldiers videotape the things they do. I think the video is fake someone probably made the video at home and then made it look like it is real with special effects to make someone mad.

I think this is a desguting fact. I want to be in the military and if somebody do something like that I would be really mad at him. I think you should show respect for a dead person. I don't care if the dead people are your enemy, your friends or are whoever. You must show respect and never do this kind of things. I think the army should fire them and never let them go back.

For something like this to occur especially in the military is very shocking. If the marines really did urinate on the dead enemies bodies they have shown much disrespect and mocked the countries that they were from. Also, this act surely created and will create more tension with the nations that we are trying to resolve conflicts with. I believe this was not something smart to do, and that those marines should receive a punishment for it.

I think that for the soldiers to actually do something like this is just crazy and unbelievable. It's so disrespectful for anyone to disturb the deceased but for them to urinate on the bodies and film it gives the military a bad reputation. I think something should be done with the footage and the soldiers should face punishments right away. I also think the military should use this incident to educate other soldiers so that this doesn't happen again.

i agree with dani that this is messed up. It's just wrong to urinate on anyone, especially when they're dead. It just blows my mind for the military to do this. Even though they're talabans doesn't mean you can just urinate on him. They need to fix their attitude and the military should supervise them a bit more or correct them.

To see your own country military urinate on a dead body is disrespectful. Who cares if they're talibans or terrorists, it doesn't give you the right to urinate on anyone. This action will just bring bad karma. It makes me angry too, that they would do something so wrong when I sit here and support their effort. I agree with paul that they need to fix their attitudes.

That was a horrible incident that soldiers urinating on talibans. It doesn't make it right to urinate on someone at all. Those soldiers were incorrect and should be fixed. The military should correct these soldiers and supervise them more. It's just disrespectful to everyone for talibans and supporters.

I was very shocked to hear about this. It so disrespectful, even if they are your enemies. Its just not right to do this. I think that the Marines should be punished for doing this because i bet it hurt a lot of people.

It is very disrespectful to urinate on people even if they are your enimies..it is not right. I agree with Steph that they should be punished for doing this. This makes our country look bad, it is very demeaning and is not right to treat someone like an animal or less than an animal.

It's one thing to urinate on dead people but being Marines is unacceptable. Our military has high standards and by doing that they're ruining the reputation of the United States. They should be punished and everyone should take a lesson out of it. Set a good example so our country can maintain its reputation of being a powerful and strong country.

I think it is totally wrong. They were US marines and were in the war against Talibans.However, it is that US is against Talibans, not the war between individuals. Eveb they were enemies and died during the war, they should have repected the corpses.

I feel that what the US Marines did was very wrong it makae the US look bad. They were very disrespectful to the US, to the Marines and to the victims, and to the familys of the dead. They were people with familys just like we are. And then to post it on youtube was so wrong. I agree with all the others who feel that they should be found and punished for their actions. It give the Us a bad image.
